Medical Laboratory Technology Course is pursued by many students now as never before. Rather than opting for a regular Degree Course, students who have completed their +2 in the Science stream find MLT more alluring as it promises a profession once the course ends.
As we live in a Pandemic-struck world, the Healthcare Sector is rapidly growing, opening up newer career prospects. The demand for Medical Laboratory Technicians has risen during the Covid outbreak and is here to stay, in all likelihood.
In Medical Laboratory Technology, the courses are offered at the diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
The three main Courses at the undergraduate level are:
- B.Sc. (MLT)
- B. M. L. T. (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology)
- D. M. L. T. (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology)
BMLT is a 3-year program with a mandatory internship of 6 months.
The duration of the diploma (DMLT) course is two years.
Class 10 pass outs can also pursue Medical Laboratory Technology. A certificate course is offered for them. The duration of CMLT is one year.
Admission to BMLT is based on an entrance test. But there are institutes that give direct admission, as well.

For studying MSc in Medical Laboratory Technology, eligibility is B.Sc. in MLT, B.Sc. Microbiology, or any equivalent science degree with 55% marks.
There is also Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (PGDMLT).
After Graduation or Post-graduation, an MLT can join any medical laboratory as a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist.
