The journey of Ms.Navrisham Kaur Grewal from an entrepreneur in robotics to the co-founder of a civic tech startup is accidental, as she puts it.
Participating in a reality show, ‘The Next Big Online Business Idea’ conducted by NDTV changed her course of action. The unique idea they pitched took the team to the Grand finalist stand.
Ms. Grewal, the founder of Metalmate Robotics Pvt Ltd, had written a blog about how tech should be used in civic problems and was invited to NDTVs show, a reality show for start-ups. The idea of ‘ChangeBhai’ kick-started there at the show.
ChangeBhai is a data analytics company that collects images from the ground. These are geotagged images like bad roads, garbage dumps, broken footpaths, etc.
“It was more of a social impact initiative where you use a lot of creative techs to let people explore and report issues in a very simple manner”, says Ms. Grewal.
The civic tech initiative attracted immediate media attention, and awards and accolades were on the way. It won the LEAP Innovation Award and was the finalist of NASSCOM’s ambitious initiative of 10,000 startups, and The Economic Times’ Catapooolt Changemakers Challenge, recognized as the top 30 disruptive ideas of India.
Change Bhai continues its success story with an impressive clientele like Serum Institute of India and Pune Police. The team has been working with Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative for five years now.
